Thereís many ways that you can expand the kitchen storage that you already have without starting a demolition project. Below, youíll find some stellar ideas for storage that may have never crossed your mind. These tips can help you to maximize the use of your kitchen storage space. Use Cabinet Doors For Storage You can put cork boards inside of a cabinet for reminders and shopping lists instead of hanging it on a wall. You can also hang a small spice rack for spice storage. You can even think about placing hooks inside of the cabinet doors of the kitchen to enable you to hang measuring cups and spoons along with other small kitchen utensils. A metal towel bar also makes a great storage apparatus inside of a cabinet door. You could hang everything from kitchen towels to utensils to the lids of your pots and pans inside of these cabinet doors. Check Out Unused Space Over Doors and Windows You can make great use of unused space over a door or window by hanging simple shelves above the frames. These shelves can be used for storing things like off season dishes or rarely used serving dishes and cooking vessels. You could even consider displaying bottles of prized liquor or wine on these shelves. Keep Pots and Pans Under Control Pots and pans are one of the bulkiest items in your kitchen. You can save a lot of cabinet space by hanging your pots and pans from a ceiling mounting rack. This way, all of your pots and pans are easily accessible, and youíre saving precious storage space. Is your garage overflowing with odds and ends leaving no room for its intended purpose - storing your car? Then you are in the same boat as many other homeowners. Garages can be such a tempting to place to hide stuff that doesnít have a place, after all out of sight out of mind. If you are ready to clean up your garage to make things easier to find and maybe even finally fit your car inside of it again keep reading. Start by clearing out your garage. Go through everything and sort items into giveaway/sell, toss and keep piles. Get rid of anything that your children have outgrown, you havenít used in years or household chemicals that have since expired (be sure to responsibly dispose of these). This step can be a weekend project in itself so donít worry if you donít have the organized garage you envisioned before Monday. When you have settled on what will be staying in your garage sort the remaining items into categories. Typical garage storage usually contains categories like seasonal items, tools, and sports equipment. When reorganizing you will want to make sure everything stays organized. You can do this by giving everything an assigned place and preferably a clearly labeled one. When possible assign items their places in a way where they will be off the floor. This prevents clutter from building up and forces you to give everything a home throughout the process and in the future. When you have emptied out your garage and organized your remaining items into categories you will have given yourself a clean slate to work with. Set yourself up for future success by investing in shelving units, large plastics bins, small glass jars and maybe even a label maker. Slat board, peg board, and track based organizational systems are other great ways to keep items off the floor, organize smaller items and hang up tools. Garages are also a great place to utilize ceiling space by installing overhead storage. Since you have already decided on categories and what is staying you should have a good idea of what kind of storage solution will work best for your garage. Once youíve created a storage system in your garage with assigned places for each item you should have that coveted room to park your vehicles inside again! Take the time to choose where you will be parking your vehicle and hang a tennis ball from a string to signal when you are parked in the correct place. The ball should gently bump the windshield when you are in the right spot. When choosing your new parking spot allow for space to walk between the vehicle and the back wall as well as the side walls. If you have a two car garage ensure that there is plenty of room between the two cars so that when doors are opened it doesnít risk bumping the other car. Depending on how cluttered your garage is organizing it may be longer than a weekend project. The kitchen. Itís one of the most used rooms of the house, yet somehow becomes one of the most disorganized. If youíre tired of digging past ten spatulas to find the potato peeler keep reading. Below are some tips on how to organize your kitchen and keep it that way! Start by making a bigger mess. Yes, clean everything out of the drawers and cupboards. You may want to include clearing out pantry items as well if itís been awhile since youíve done so. Check expiration dates on everything as sometimes items have a way of getting pushed to the back of a cupboard to be forgotten for years. Sort through your items and determine what can be kept, donated or tossed out. Create categories for the items you are keeping. Think baking, cooking, seasonal, often used, least used, etc. By sorting everything out into categories now, you will know what type of storage solutions and where the best place to store them is later. Find storage solutions that work. Whether you have items laying around the house you can use or need to invest in some, the best way to stay organized is to create a system that assigns a home for every single item you own. Junk drawers are born from items not having a dedicated place. Be proactive in preventing the dreaded junk drawer by finding an organization solution that includes a spot for everything. Some organization items to consider are lazy susans for spices and other pantry items, hooks to hang mugs, a stemware rack for wine glasses, a rack hang pots and pans from the ceiling, hooks on the insides of cabinet doors for pot holders or measuring cups, a spice rack installed on a cabinet door, and drawer dividers for utensils. Keep your most used items within reach. Avoid digging through cupboards and drawers on a daily basis by keeping your most used items front and center. In cabinets store your most used items on lower shelves while placing the ones you use less often on top shelves. Place your go-to cooking utensils in a vase or other type of decorative container on the counter next to the stove. You should also consider keeping pots, pans, and other cooking items close to the stove to keep them within arms reach when you are cooking. Extra Tips for the Go-Getters. Organize plastic ware with their lids. Better yet invest in a set that comes with snap-together lids or a large matching set so you arenít left trying to cram the wrong lid on a bowl for leftovers. Make the most of the empty space over your cabinets by adding shelves for extra storage. Add a lazy susan in your fridge to avoid items being pushed to the back and becoming long forgotten. Set up a station to sort typical kitchen papers like coupons, menus, and notepads. While we use our kitchen almost every day the clutter can build up and become overwhelming. With an action plan in hand and a few days dedicated to organizing the chaos you can have a cleaner, more organized kitchen before you know it!

We all have our own version of the ideal work environment. Some of us require†a distraction-free bubble to be productive, whereas others prefer to work in a bustling cafe. There are many factors that contribute to workplace productivity and there have been numerous studies on that very topic, focusing on things like the best time of day to work, how often to take breaks, and even the benefits of looking at cute pictures of cats to boost your performance.†For our purposes, we're going to focus on environment. Specifically, your home. We live in a time when more and more of us are unable to "punch out" at the end of the day and leave our work at the office. Whether it's checking emails,†staying up late grading papers, or studying for a work-related exam, odds are you'll find yourself having to work in your home at some point. Step 1: Choose which room you will dedicate to work Whether it's a bedroom or home office, you'll want to be consistent with which room serves as your productivity zone. Just as you've trained your body to sleep when your head hits the pillow, you'll need to train your brain to work when you sit down at your desk at home. Step 2: Setting up your desk You won't get much work done if your back aches or if your chair is so comfortable that you're likely to fall asleep in it. Pick a chair that is sturdy and ergonomic, and make sure your screen and keyboard are at a good height so you aren't slouched. Step 3: Setting the mood If you need noise to work, determine what kind of noise will help†you stay focused. There are sites like Noisli†that let you combine different natural sounds. Pandora radio is free and will play a diverse mix of songs based on what you want to hear, and you can pay a small monthly fee to get rid of the ads. Maybe nature sounds and music are†too distracting for you but the sound of silence is even worse. If that's the case you might want to invest in a white noise fan. Step 4: Do some decorating As important as the sound in†your environment is what you put in it†and how you arrange it. Depending on personal preference, you might want to keep your workplace either minimalistic or homey. You should also consider the lighting of the room. Dimming the lights a bit might save your eyes some strain if you're looking at a computer screen for hours at a time. Generally speaking, people work best in†natural lighting (so avoid blue LEDs or harsh fluorescent bulbs). The options are endless and the best way to find out what keeps you productive is to experiment with different set ups. What's most important is that you find what works for you. Do you have countless pairs of pants, shirts and shoes? Do you ever wonder where you put that favorite top? Or why all of your pants fit in a certain space last month but they donít now? Closet struggles are common but there are ways to fix those problems. Here are a few favorite tips for making the most of your closet: Donate, Sell or Toss: First and foremost, go through everything in your closet. A good rule to live by is to get rid of anything you havenít worn in the last year (unless itís a specialty item such as a dress for a wedding). We tend to hold onto things that we hope one day will fit again or will come back into style but those are not wise ways to think when you are trying to optimize space in your closet. From there it is up to you what to donate, sell or toss. Organize: Next is to organize. Make piles of whatís left based on clothing type and then organize by color. This will make your life so much easier when it comes to looking for clothes. Youíll know exactly where each type of clothing is if you put them all together and if you categorize by color youíll always be able to find what youíre looking for. Systems & Layout: If your current layout isnít working for you then maybe itís time to reassess and purchase a new closet system. Simple systems can be found at many retailers such as Wal-Mart and Home Depot. If you are looking for more intricate pieces and systems that arenít too costly then your best bet is IKEA. Consider adding a wardrobe or additional closet to your space if everything wonít fit in your current closet. IKEAís closets and closet systems are fairly customizable so you can choose for what works for you. Best practices: For drawers, fold clothing and stack vertically so that they are stacked from the front of your drawer to the back. This will allow you to see each piece of clothing in your drawers so youíll never need to dig through to find what youíre looking for. Clear storage boxes are perfect for shoes, belts and accessories. Youíll be able to see inside and wonít lose track of your stuff. Itís important to take into account the size of your closet, if you have additional space to add in other furniture for storage, and the type of system/storage that will work best for you and your wardrobe. If you have a lot of items that need to be hung or you just prefer to hang your clothes then you will want to go with a system that has more hanging space than drawer space and vice versa if you like to fold your clothes and store in drawers. Be mindful of your space and your stuff and youíre on you way to an organized closet.
